you can absolutely stain porous Mexican (Saltillo) tile because its
high porosity allows stains to penetrate deeply for a durable,
natural-looking color, but you must first strip any existing sealer/wax
and use specialized penetrating stains, applying thin, even coats and
sealing thoroughly afterward to prevent streaking and maintain the
