After
extreme damage to the Treasure Island house due to hurricane Milton
with salt water intrusion, our Mexican Tile Renew project restores the
Saltillo tile floors on South Bayshore Blvd Sunset Beach
Treasure Island Fl. After major hurricane damage in 2024, most of the
tiles had to be stained to original color. The old
Mexican tile floor, from 1950, had been under three feet of water for
five days, after two major Hurricanes in October 2024, has been
stripped, cleaned,
re-stained, and sealed to make line new again.
Staining
Mexican (Saltillo) tile updates their color while highlighting the
natural, rustic texture. The process involves stripping old wax,
applying a diluted water-based stain (or a stain/sealer mix) with a
white terry cloth rag to avoid streaking, and sealing with 4-5 coats of
protective sealer, it is labor intensive as each tile is done by hand. One

Hurricanes Helene and Milton on Siesta Key Fl in October 2024. In
February 2026 Mexican Tile Renew continues to restore Saltillo tile
flooring on Siesta Key due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton in October
2024.
Typical
flood-damaged floors on Siesta Key from Hurricanes Helene and Milton
(2024) involved extensive water infiltration, leaving behind mud, ruined
subfloors, and soaked floor coverings. Ground-level areas, particularly
garages and lanais, saw water lines of 2-3 feet, resulting in saturated
flooring.
